- Newspaper, Hartford Courant obituary, 19 Dec. 2003, Jessie R. Bassevitch passed away peacefully on Tuesday, (December 16, 2003) just shy of her 105th year. She made her home at Duncaster in Bloomfield where she had lived for the past 13 years. She was a woman of great strength and fortitude spanning three centuries. Born in 1899 in New York City, NY she graduated from Columbia University in 1920 and moved to Hartford when she married Isadore Bassevitch, founder and president of the Standard Structural Steel Company. He predeceased her. She was one of the first woman golfers at Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield where she became the first women's club champion. She had great joie de vivre, an upbeat personality, and was always an advocate for physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. She leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Sam Golding; her grandchildren, Vivian Robinson and her husband Joseph, and Gary Steven Golding; and two great grandchildren, Jared and Braden Robinson. Funeral services were private with interment in the family plot at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield.
