He didn't divorce Anna and marry his second wife Rose Blank until much later. My mom says Hymie waited until his mother Roisa died in 1955 for the divorce. There may have been a 1930 marriage between a Hyman Kahan and a Rose Kaplan, but these were likely different people. Also, Edith Semiatin's family tree lists Rose's maiden name as Blank.

2013 | Death | Marvin Kahan died on 6 September 2013 in Brooklyn, New York. Email from Ilene Semiatin Park, 6 sep 13:
Hello everyone,
I am sorry to have to tell you that my mom's cousin Marvin Kahan, son of Chaim (Hymie) Kahan, passed away today. Mom found out today from Lester Kahan's wife Phyllis (Lester is Marvin's brother).
Marvin was still recovering from major heart surgery (new aortic valve), which he underwent at the end of July. He was living in Brooklyn with in-home care. Apparently, he told his caregiver that he wasn't feeling very well earlier today, and a short time later collapsed. Marvin will be buried via a local Orthodox group that provides burial services; I don't have any other details on his funeral at this time.
Phyllis asked Mom to ask me to let the family know via email. If you would like to write a note of condolence to Lester, who lives in the Pacific Northwest, you can email him at k2enc@comcast.net. Lester himself is recovering from a recent fall and several serious ailments. Though progress has been slow, he is doing better every day. Phyllis is doing most of the communication for the two of them right now.
May the rest of the new year bring our extended family happier news. Wishing you all a good and sweet new year. |
