He was born on 15 November 1864 at Clarke Twp., Durham County, Ontario, Canada.9,5,3,4,7 Alternatively, he may have been born on 16 November 1864 at Clarke Twp., Durham County, Ontario, Canada, according to Bill Moffat's family tree report3; or, circa 1866 at Ontario, Canada, since he was age 15 in the 1881 census.8
James Moffatt died on 5 February 1891 at Haldimand Twp., Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada, at age 26 according to Ontario Death Registration 010770. His age was given as 22 rather than 26.10,11 The cause of his death was given as peritonitis after 5 days illness.10 The informant on his death registration was his physician, Dr. W W Boyce.10 Alternatively, he died circa 1865 at Bowmanville, Regional Municipality of Durham, Ontario, Canada. Died in infancy per Janet Hume & Mary Louise Young. Either these reports of James' death as an infant were premature, or a second son named James should be added to this family. The 1881 census reports him as being 15 at that time, so he would have been born about 1865/66 which is consistent with his grave marker.3,4

Since then, Miss Riddell has lived in Cobourg, where she was born 89(?) years ago.
In August last Miss Riddell suffered a cerebral hemmorhage (sic), and was brought to the Western.
Miss Riddell was one of twelve children. Her father, Walter Riddell, died at the age of 91 years and her mother at 86. She is survived by her sisters, Mrs. Thomson Ballagh, Cobourg and Mrs. R. J. Stevenson, Pilot Mound, Man., and two brothers, Justice Riddell, Toronto and Capt. Robt. Riddell, Seattle, formerly an officer in the Royal North West Mounted Police.
