Passing of a Frobisher Lady
On Sunday morning, 10th inst., there passed away at the home of her brother, Alfred Moffatt, north of Frobisher, Mrs. Janet Riddell, relict of the late Walter R. Riddell of Frobisher, Saskatchewan The deceased lady was aged 74 years and up to quite recently she had enjoyed reasonably good health for her advanced years. The deceased lady was a truly noble character, one whose life exemplified the very finest qualities of human nature; truth was the inspiration of her life and by daily kindness she testified its great worth. As a friend and neighbor she had few equals and her tender solicitude for those near to her, endeared her to all with whom she came in contact. Predeceased by her husband a little over twelve months ago she devoted her life to those near and dear to her, yet she had always time to console any person who came to her for sympathy or advice. Born in Newtonville, Ont. On 22nd February, 1858, she was the eldest daughter of Walter and Agnes Moffatt. She married Walter Riddell on 10th January, 1896 in Cobourg, Ont. After some time spent in the east they moved to the great new west in February, 1917, and settled in Frobisher district. One son was born to the union, Walter T. Riddell of the staff of the "Star-Phoenix" at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and to this only son, who was present at his mother's side when she passed into her reward, we extend sincere sympathy in his great loss. Three brothers survive, Rodger and Alfred Moffatt of Frobisher and Thomas of Newcastle, Ont. She was predeceased by one sister and seven brothers. The funeral service took place on Monday afternoon at the home of her brother Alfred, when a large number of relations and friends gathered to pay their respects to the memory of a noble woman. Rev. James Bright of the United Church , Frobisher, officiated, and delivered an impressive oration on the text "She hath done what she could." Several hymns, favorites of the deceased were impressively rendered. Interment took place in Frobisher cemetery in a plot beside where her husband was laid. There were no flowers, this being the spe(cific request of the) deceased.2

; Pat O'Dwyer . . . super service
...We looked at the crops, including Neepawa wheat, a star performer. Still, as it turned out, the stories I found most fascinating were Del's recollections of George H. Rutledge.
"Rutledge," he said, "came up from Iowa, and he broke up the country with a Reeves steamer -- a double compound (two cylinders)." That engineering description was lost on me, but I got the picture a little more clearly when Del said the Reeves was bigger than anything at the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon.
Del's father, Fred Summach, had a Case steam engine, and a 44-inch separator.
"Both Rutledge and Dad threshed the whole area," Del remembered. Big cook cars, big bunk cars, big crews, two water tanks to quench the thirst of that powerful steamer.
Those were halcyon days. Rutledge and Summach came to the district about the same time, in 1906. Summach brought his own lumber with him from Rockingham (Geulph (sic)), Ontario, and with it built his home. It's still there as the core of the home where Fred Jr. and his family live. It has been extended from the original. Yet. there it is, a fulfillment of the promise it held out to its builders 70 years ago.
Del took me over to the Rutledge homestead, and what memories it stirred in him. Rutledge pioneered in the use of machinery in the horse-and-buggy era and he took young Del Summach under his wing and taught him the mechanics of the tractor, the thresher, their operation and repair...18

...We looked at the crops, including Neepawa wheat, a star performer.
