The listing here of his given name as James is from a handwritten note in the book by Salome Hamilton, below the paragraph on John Hamilton, that says "The father; James, died in Worcester, 1735." Barden lists his name as James on p. 28, and as John on p. 57.4,7 Like his father, he was a minister.8 He and his wife Rebecca came to Massachusetts in 1716, possibly from Londonderry, Ireland.1,7
His will was dated 25 April 1735, and proved 16 May 1735 in Worcester, Worcester Co., Massachusetts. He left his real estate to his sons Thomas, Michael, and John, to be divided equally. His daughter Frances received two cows, plus whatever household goods her mother chose to give her, and his son Thomas received a bull. His mother Rebecca was to have the remainder for her use during her lifetime, and to live with their son John, who was to receive what was left after her death. His brother John, wife Rebecca, and Samuel Calhoone were named executors.5
