     Lucinda Banks Dunn was born on 1 January 1887 in Providence Twp., Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina.4,3 She married Roy Bowditch, son of Joseph Bowditch and Martha Elizabeth Anderson, on 30 August 1913 in Washington, D. C.3,1 She died on 9 May 1966 at St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville, Knox Co., Tennessee, at age 79.5 She was buried at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville, Knox Co., Tennessee.6
     She sometimes went by her middle name Banks7, and sometimes by the nickname Lucy.8
     At the time of her marriage in 1913 she was living in Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina, and had been employed for the previous three years as secretary and confidential clerk to William Carey Dowd, owner of the Charlotte News.3
     After their marriage she and her husband Roy initially lived in Schenectady, Schenectady Co., New York.3 By October 1915, when their son Joseph was born, they had moved to Pittsfield, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts,9 and in 1918 they were living in Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana.10 They were in Norton, Wise Co., Virginia, from at least 1922 to 192311,12, and moved to Fountain City, a neighborhood in the northern part of Knoxville, Knox Co., Tennessee, about 1924.13 She and her family are listed there in the 1930 and 1940 censuses.7,8
     In 1937 she and Roy built a vacation cabin on the Roaring Fork in Gatlinburg, Sevier Co., Tennessee, that they often shared with family and friends.14 Roy's cousin Frederick Tryon Bowditch, the author of The Bowditch Family of Salem, Massachusetts, North Carolina Branch, recalled spending "many very happy summer vacations" there.2 They also bought a winter home in St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co., Florida, in September 1945, and the following spring applied for a permit to enlarge the garage apartment.15,16
     She was a member of the Fountain City Park Commission, served as president of the Fountain City Garden Club and the Knoxville Rock Garden Society, and was a regent of the Simon Harris Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.5
     Her will was filed on 29 June 1966. In it she left the family home on Terrace View Dr. and 111 shares of AT&T stock to her daughter Alice, a store building in Knoxville to her daughter Mary, and property on Dogwood Rd. to her son Joseph. Her children were also left property in Sevier Co. (location of the family's vacation cabin), with her daughters sharing 111 acres and Joseph receiving 51.5 acres. The remainder of her estate was to be divided equally among the three children.17
