He was named in his father's will, dated 10 May 1563 and proved 11 Oct 1568, and was to receive £6 13s 4d at the age of 16.1 His wife survived him, and was still living on 20 April 1637, the date of her son Michael's will.1

He lived at Holditch Court in Thorncombe, co. Devon, England.2 He was assessed 10s in the subsidy of 20 March 1552, based on the value of his lands in Thorncombe, co. Devon, England.2
His will was dated 10 May 1563 and proved 11 October 1568 by his widow Margery, who was named executrix. In his will he left: 40 of his best wethers (a neutered male sheep) to his son John; 10 of his best wethers (after John had chosen) to his son Nicholas; £6 13s 4d to his son George, at age 16; £4 6s 8d to his son Robert; £13 6s 8d to his daughter Agnes, half at the time of her marriage, and half "when her husband hath assured her in his bargain"; £10 to his daughter Grace at the time of her marriage; 12d to the Vicar of Thorncombe, 4d to St. Peter's Church in Exeter, 2s to the Church of Hawkchurch, and 12d to the Church of Charmouth; a ewe to Richard Bragge, son of William; 4d to each of his "brothers children and sisters"; and the rest to his wife Margery.1

On 20 April 1567 be bought the eastern half of the house and certain lands in Thorncombe, co. Devon, England, from John Freke and Matthew Bragge. In the deed he is called "Gentleman."2 On 4 October 1592 he was assessed 16d on land in Thorncombe valued at 20s.2

He was plaintiff in a Chancery suit involving "copyholds in the manor of Thorncombe" on 10 October 1579.2 He was assessed 6s on goods valued at £6 in the subsidy of 4 August 1582, and 8s on goods valued at £8 in the subsidy of 4 August 1592, in Thorncombe, co. Devon, England.2 He also lived in Chaffcombe, co. Somerset, England.2
His wife Margery was made administrator of his goods on 25 August 1611.2

She and William Hall were probably already contracted to marry by 10 May 1563, the date of her father's will.2 She was named in the will, which was proved 11 Oct 1568, and was to receive £13 6s 8d, half at her marriage and half when her husband "hath assured her in his bargain".1

His will was dated 26 February 1627/28 and proved on 16 April 1628 by his widow Joan, the executrix. His estate was inventoried on 14 April 1628, and valued at £16 18s 4d.1

He lived at Holditch Court in Thorncombe, co. Devon, England.1 In Thorncombe he was assessed 2s on goods valued at £4 in the subsidy of 20 January 1525, 15s on goods valued at £30 in the subsidy of 1540-41, 18s as a benevolence (a compulsory levy) in 1546, and 16s on property valued at £16 in the subsidy of 24 November 1548.1

He may be the person, named Richard Bowdiche in the records, who was assessed 10s on property valued at £10 in the subsidy of 26 February 1551.1
