He was a founding member of the Musical Education Society in Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts, and served as its director from the time of its inception on 1 October 1837. At his death in 1840 the society passed a set of resolutions in his memory, stating that the society had "lost one of its earliest and firmest friends," that they could "look back upon his life with feelings of respect, and find much in his character and high moral principle for us to emulate and admire," and expressing sympathy to his family and friends.7,8

On 16 September 1846, after the deaths of Nathaniel and Agustanna's twin infant sons Frederick and Francis, Agustanna's cousin Georgiana Abbot wrote to her sister Elizabeth (Abbot) Bowditch in North Carolina saying "By the Register you see how very sickly it is among children here. All have died with the same complaint, taken with the cholera, and then it goes to the head. ... I have been to the twins funeral this afternoon. They died in spasms, both of them."6

He was a tailor in North Danvers, Essex Co., Massachusetts.6,7 On 7 October 1849 his shop was broken into and his entire stock of cloth and clothing was taken, a $600 value. He offered a reward and traveled to Boston to report the crime, and found that his goods had already been recovered and arrests made. That same evening two men had been spotted by police, one known to them. Around 4:00 AM they were seen emptying the goods from their wagon, and were arrested.7
His will was dated 19 August 1856, and proved in court in Salem on 1 May 1860. His estate was valued at $6607.21, which included $2050 in reale estate ($1500 of which was his tailor shop and lot in Danvers), and $4557.21 in personal property. Everything was left to his wife Agustanna, who was named executor.9
