He moved to Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts, about 1812.2 He also lived for a time in Methuen, Essex Co., Massachusetts.2 In the spring of 1844 he moved to his farm in Auburn, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire.2
He was master of various merchant ships engaged in foreign trade for several years.2 In 1813, while master of the Levant, he was captured by the British, and held at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, Devonshire, England, for almost two years.2
