About 1752, after his first son was born, Moses Stickney and eight others, including Richard Peabody, began a settlement at Rowley, Canada (now Jaffrey, Cheshire Co., New Hampshire). The settlement was abandoned after a short time due to problems with Indians in the area.2 He moved back to Boxford, then to Holden, Worcester Co., Massachusetts, about 1762. Sometime after 1778 he moved to Temple, Hillsborough Co., New Hampshire, and later to Springfield, Windsor Co., Vermont.2
In 1757 he was a member of the First Foot Co. of Boxford, Essex Co., Massachusetts.2 During the Revolution, from 30 July 1778 to 12 September 1778 he was a private in Capt. William Thurlo's Co., Col. Whiting's Reg, in Rhode Island.2
