Beeley on 28 August 1872 in Morgan Co., Illinois.5 He died on 18 October 1902 in Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois, at age 66.6 He was buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery (Block 1, Range 12, Grave 19) in Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois.7
     He was deaf and mute, caused by a case of measles as a child. His first wife Anna was not deaf, but both of her parents were. His second wife Martha was deaf from birth.3,8 Both he and Martha were educated at the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville, Morgan Co., Illinois. Milton attended from 1849 to 1858, and Martha from 1852 to at least 1861.9,2
     In 1870 he and his two children were living with his parents in Springfield Twp., Sangamon Co., Illinois.10 He and his second wife Martha lived on a farm in Fancy Creek Twp., about 12 miles north of Springfield, where he was "a well known farmer and stockman."11,12 They moved into the city of Springfield in 189212, and are listed there in the 1900 census.13
     He and his first wife Anna had the following known children: Cora (d as an infant), Nellie E. (b abt 1862), and Frances S. (b abt 1864).2,11 He and his second wife Martha had two known children, Lillie (b abt 1873), Marcia (b October 1875), and Milton (b April 1878).13,2

     David Humphrey was born on 4 December 1834 in Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois.3,2,1 He married Mary Ann Chapman, daughter of Joseph Chapman and Mary Clay, on 9 June 1857 in Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois.4,1,3 He died on 18 August 1908 at the home of his daughter Minnie and her husband Johnson Armstrong in Tacoma, Pierce Co., Washington, at age 73.2,3 He was buried on 20 August 1908 at Tacoma Cemetery (Sect. 2) in Tacoma, Pierce Co., Washington.2,5
     After their marriage, he and his wife Mary lived in Christian Co., Illinois, in Assumption Twp. (formed in 1865)6,7, where he was a farmer.6,7 By 1876 they had moved to Farmingdale in Gardner Twp., Sangamon Co., Illinois.1 He was serving there as station agent and postmaster in 18761, and is listed as a retail grocer in the 1880 census.8 A news article about him published in 1898 says that he had been in the "mercantile and grain business" in Illinois, and retired in 1885.
     His obituary says that when Abraham Lincoln was living in Springfield, Sangamon Co., "the two men were close friends."3,9
     He and Mary moved to Tacoma, Pierce Co., Washington, in the spring of 1889.4 They are listed there at 3320 Union Ave. in the 1900 census, along with their daughter Allie Shaver and her daughter Helen.10 At some point they apparently moved in with their daughter Minnie's family at 922 South E St. in Tacoma, since David died there in 1908, and Mary was listed with them there in the 1910 census.3,11
     Although not actively engaged in any occupation after moving to Tacoma, he did have business interests in Spokane and the eastern part of the state. He also served on the Tacoma city council in 1894, and as president of the park board for eight years.3
     According to the 1900 census, Mary had five chldren, with three then living, but names are only known for the following: John J. (b abt 1858, d abt 1904), Alice (b Nov 1860), Minnie E. (b abt 1863).7,10,3
