     Janice Louise Dobbeck was born on 16 September 1930 in Oak Park, Cook Co., Illinois.1 She married first John Bryan Park, son of Wills Bryan Park and Gladys Bearden, on 7 August 1953 at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Evanston, Cook Co., Illinois.2,1 They were divorced about 1973.1 She married second Ernest Lee Smith, son of Ernest Smith and Elizabeth McKee, on 13 January 1974 in Bel Air, Harford Co., Maryland.1 She died on 2 November 2020 at home in Bel Air, Harford Co., Maryland, at age 90.3 She was buried on 4 November 2020 next to her husband Lee at Bel Air Memorial Gardens in Bel Air, Harford Co., Maryland.3
     On 11 July 1931 she was selected as the winner of a "better baby" contest in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois. Her mother's brother Carl Hanson, who was then suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease, liked to hold her, and urged her mother to enter her in the contest. Entrants were judged on their health, and after three preliminary rounds, the final determination was made by a panel of four doctors and four nurses. She received the $25 first prize. Carl died less than three weeks later, on 29 July 1931.4,5,6
     She graduated on 31 May 1953 from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana, with a B.S. degree in home economics.7
     While at Purdue she met her future husband John Park. She and two friends were on a triple blind date with three fraternity brothers - she with John, her sister Jeanne Dobbeck with Dave Bowditch, and Helen Bowditch (Dave's sister) with Walt Leonard. All three couples later married.3

     John Bryan Park was born on 16 December 1931 in St. Louis, St. Louis Co., Missouri.2 He married first Janice Louise Dobbeck, daughter of Edward Ernest Diederick Dobbeck and Martha Anna Christina Hanson, on 7 August 1953 at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Evanston, Cook Co., Illinois.3,1 They were divorced about 1973.1 He married second Marilyn Audrey Schorah on 21 December 1973 in Las Vegas, Clark Co., Nevada.4 He died on 25 February 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina, at age 83.2 He was buried on 27 February 2015 at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina.2
     He graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio,2 and from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana, majoring in engineering.2
     While at Purdue he met his future wife Janice Dobbeck. He and two fraternity brothers were on a triple blind date - he with Jan, Dave Bowditch with Jeanne Dobbeck (Jan's sister), and Walt Leonard with Helen Bowditch (Dave's sister). All three couples later married.5
     He was a member of the Naval ROTC at Purdue5, and entered active duty shortly after his marriage, serving as an aviator in Patrol Squadron 11 in the Atlantic Fleet.2 He remained a member of the Naval Reserves until 1962.2
     After his Naval career he worked for American Cyanamid for 37 years.2 During that time he lived in Havre de Grace, Harford Co., Maryland, Wayne, Passaic Co., New Jersey, and the United Kingdom.2

     Ernest Lee Smith was born on 30 May 1932 in Lord (aka Klondike), Allegany Co., Maryland.2,3 He married as his second wife Janice Louise Dobbeck, daughter of Edward Ernest Diederick Dobbeck and Martha Anna Christina Hanson, on 13 January 1974 in Bel Air, Harford Co., Maryland.1 He died on 22 October 2003 in Mariner Health of Forest Hill, Forest Hill, Harford Co., Maryland, at age 71.2,3 He was buried at Bel Air Memorial Gardens in Bel Air, Harford Co., Maryland.4
     He graduated from Central High School in Lonaconing, Allegany Co., Maryland, in 1950, and from Frostburg State Teachers College (now Frostburg State University) in Frostburg, Allegany Co., in 1954. He was drafted into the U.S. Army that same year and served for two years with the 101st Army Division in communications, then in the inactive reserves for five years.2
     After his release from active duty in 1956 he began his teaching career in the elementary department of Aberdeen High School. He also taught at Hall's Cross Roads, Oakington Elementary (now Roye-Williams and Deerfield Elementary), and served as an assistant principal. He also earned a master's degree from the University of Maryland in College Park, Prince George's Co., in 1969. He retired in 1992.2
     He was a member of American Legion Post 39 in Bel Air, and the Maryland Retired Teachers Association.2
