     He moved to Sandwich, New Plymouth Colony,2, where he became prominent among Quakers living there. That caused him many difficulties2, and he and his family eventually moved back to Barnstable.2

     He and his wife Goodith came to New England in 1630, initially settling in Charlestown, Massachusetts.2 They were admitted to the church there on 6 December 1632.2 William was made a freeman on 14 May 1634.2 On 10 February 1634/35 he signed a petition to establish the position of selectman in Charlestown, and served as selectman in 1636.2 On 26 April 1638 he was listed as a member of a committee in Charlestown that was to begin the process of establishing a set of laws.2
     In a list of landowners in Charlestown taken in 1638, he had seven parcels totaling 69 acres, plus 3 3/4 cow commons.2
     He moved to Woburn, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, in 1640.2
