He was a maker of pitch and tar, and had business dealings in St. Malo, France.2 He was active in local civil affairs2, and was a member of the Church of England. In 1664 he was part of a protest against being taxed for the support of the Congregational church in Windsor.2 He served as a dragoon (member of a mounted infantry unit) in 1667.2
