He and his wife Rosetta were living in Henry Twp., Fulton Co., Indiana, in 1900.4 By 1910 they had moved to Wells Co., Indiana,1,7 where they were living in Chester Twp. in 19107, and in Lancaster Twp. in 1920.8 Sometime between 1928 and 1930 they moved again, from Wells Co. to Harrison Twp., Blackford Co., Indiana.9,10
In 1900 he was working as an engineer at a grist mill.4 He turned to farming by 19107,8,10, and also worked as an oil operator in Wells Co.1
In his mother's will, dated 11 July 1921, he was left nothing, because "during the several years last past he has manifested no interest in my welfare and I feel that he is not entitled to any interest in my estate."2,11
He and Rosetta had two children, Vella D. (b September 1890) and Zola E. (b October 1893).4,7

He and his wife Maude lived in Washington Twp., Kosciusko Co., Indiana, from at least 1907 to 1920. They are listed there in the 1920 census, enumerated on 15 January 19201,7,8; however, Delmar's father's obituary, dated 5 February 1920, described him as being "of Richland Twp., [Whitley Co., Indiana]." They are listed in Richland Twp. in the 1930 census. In 1930 their son Gleason was still living with them, as was their widowed daughter Irma Beard and her seven-year-old son Don J. Beard.9,10
In his mother's will, dated 11 July 1921, the bulk of her estate was left to him and his brothers John and Rolla, since they "have treated me with uniform kindness and respect and I have great affection for them." However, John was in ill health at the time, and if he were to die during her lifetime (and he did), his share was to go to Delmar and Rolla.2,11
