Rutherford Birchard Hayes was elected Representative to the U. S. Congress from the 2nd. Ohio District in 1864 and 1866. He was elected Governor of Ohio in 1867, 1869, and 1875. In 1872 he declined the position of Assistant Treasurer of the U. S. He was elected President of the U. S. in 1876, inaugurated on 5 March 1877, and served one term.1

On 24 November 1719 she and her husband Samuel, and others, "for divers good causes and considerations" sold their rights to the estate of Edmund Rice (probably Joyce's father) in Sudbury to Jason Rice.1

On 29 November 1737 Samuel Abbott received from his father, "for many good causes and considerations ... but especially for and in consideration of Love and good will and affection ...," half of his father's upland, orchard, pasture, and meadow in Sudbury, the east half of his house, and half of his upland and meadow in Weston.1
He was named executor of his father's will, and was to receive half of all the land and outdoor moveable estate. He and his sister Martha were to divide the household effects evenly between them. In addition, he was to receive the property left to his sister Joyce at her death or marriage, which consisted of half the personal estate, half the house and barn, and the use of the remaining half of the land.1
He was a member of Rev. Mr. Loring's church in Sudbury, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.2
His name is on a list dated 25 April 1757 concerning Capt. Moses Maynard's First Sudbury Foot Co. He also served in Capt. Samuel Dakin's Sudbury Co. in 1758, taking part in Gen. Abercrombie's Expedition against Fort Ticonderoga. He is presumed to have died on 8 July 1758 in the assault on the fort, which was defended by 3,000 French troops under Gen. Montcalm.2
He died intestate, and on 24 September 1771 his son Ephraim was appointed administrator of his estate. It was valued at £338, not counting a note from John Abbott for £100.2

He was a member of the Crown Point expedition during the French and Indian War in 1775, serving as a private in Capt. Samuel Dakin's Co., Col. Josiah Brown's Regt. from Sudbury.1
His will was dated 21 February 1779 and proved 12 March 1788. His son Edward was named executor, but declined since the estate was insolvent.1

He was probably a farmer.1 He and his son Gershom Jr. were appointed administrators of his son Thomas's estate on 20 November 1727.1 In 1747 he and his friend and neighbor Francis Locke were each fined 30s by the Justice of the Peace in Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, for walking from Cambridge to Newton to attend church. The decision was later overruled.1
