Services for Donald M. (sic) MacFarlane, 63, of 263 Roslindale Avenue, who died Thursday, were held Saturday morning from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, with a solemn high Mass of requiem in St. John Chrysostom Church.
Born in Nova Scotia, he came to this country in the 1920's and formerly lived in Roxbury, coming to Roslindale six years ago.
He operated his own roofing business.
Surviving are his wife, Mary M. (Cameron); three daughters, Mrs. Katherine Ann Doolan of Prospect, Conn., Mrs. Shirley F. Nolan of Avon and Mrs. Myran (sic) L. White of Dorchester; two sons, Lt. Joseph A., USNR, now on active duty with the Seventh Fleet and Donald J. Jr., a senior at Boston State College; and eight grandchildren.
Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.38

He was living in Boston at the time of his brother Hugh Simon's death in 1941.8

Nolan of Avon, Joseph A. MacFalane of West Roxbury, Myrna L. White of Braintree, Donald J. MacFarlane of Natick and the late Doris-Marie and Mary Bernice MacFarlane. Dear mother-in-law of Thomas Doolan, John Nolan, Donna MacFarlane, Francis White and Elizabeth MacFarlane. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 Main St., RANDOLPH until 9:15 am on Saturday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in St. Michael's Church, Avon. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury.11

- Biography*: Mary attended the Tullogh School at West Lake Ainslie up to grade eight. She then attended St. Mary's Convent School and Inverness High School. In 1917 she taught for one year in a one room school house in Sky Glen.
In 1918 Mary and her sister Florence went west on the Harvest Train to Beverly, Alberta, where she taught for two years. She was a lodger with the Henry H. Haverstock family. In 1920 she spent a year taking a business course in Edmonton. She worked in the Edmonton office of the Telephone Company for two years. According to her sister Florence it was here that she learned most of her Gaelic, from Sadie Beaton.
In 1923 Mary returned to Lake Ainslie, then headed out to Boston.
On October 9, 1923 Mary entered the United States through Vanceboro, Maine, aboard the Canadian Pacific Railway. From there she made her way to Boston.
Mary found work at the Howes Shoe Company in South Boston. It was here she worked until her marriage and the birth of her first child, Ann. She lived for the first year or so in Hyde Park with her Aunt Belle. She then moved to an apartment on Tremont Street with her sisters Florence and Margaret, Margaret MacIsaac, Margaret Burke and Ceilia Cameron (English).
They lived in the South End of Boston at least in 1928 & 1929 at 53 Pembroke Street. According to the City Census Mary earned her living as a stenographer. When her sister Margaret got married in 1930 Mary went to live with them on Mission Hill. It was from here that she got married.34
