' A member of the Montezuma Methodist" Church, he was born Oct. 9; 1874, in Ithaca/ a son of the Late Lyman arid Amy Knox Van Gelder. The family moved from PennI Yan to Montezuma 20 years ago.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Burton Cornish and Mrs. George Ellsworth of Elmira, Mrs. Le Roy Goldsmith of Monterey, Mrs. Joseph Hyitt of Seneca Falls, Mrs. Arthur Poorman of Fayette and Mrs. Charles Landing of Auburn; six sons, William of Tyre, Claude of Savannah. Ray of Toledo, Ohio, Albert of Houston, Tex., Leon of Oaks Corners and Edward of Dundee; 39 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Colvin Funeral Home with burial in Butler-Savannah Cemetery, the Rev. Alexander Schaus of the Montezuma Methodist Church officiating.
