Berta was Lena (Leah) Levine's (married name Feinberg) daughter and of course, Guta Bassevitch's granddaughter. Bertie had married a man named Rothbart and had one daughter, Francine.
Bertie died when Francine was 3 weeks old. I never met her (Francine is a couple of years older than me but we played together as kids). She was raised by her father until she was 7, when he died. Then his father's sister, Helen Rothbart, raised her.

Janet Mickelson Mildenberg

Mrs. Mildenberg, 84, of Charlotte, died May 26 at Presbyterian Hospital.

Janet was born June 24, 1920 in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Walter and Doris Mickelson. A 1943 graduate of Hamline University, she later worked as an advertising representative for newspapers in Washington, D.C., Chicago and Phoenix.

She and her late husband, Harold Mildenberg, ran a weekly newspaper in Eureka, S.D. in the 1950s. They later moved to New Ulm, Minn., to work for Mickelson Media Inc., a publishing company formed by Janet's father.

In New Ulm Janet raised two sons, wrote a weekly column and was active in civic affairs. She was a school board member and a trustee at Southwest State University in Marshall, Minn. Janet later moved to the Twin Cities and spent 15 years developing new friendships and interest. Failing health prompted her move to Charlotte in 1995 to be closer to family.

A Carriage Club resident, Janet enjoyed participating in the Providence Community Church. She loved her Norwegian heritage, newspapers, Minnesota, opinionated people, Tiger Woods, spirituality and laughter.

Janet is survived by her brother, Walter 'Bill' Mickelson, and his wife, Hazel of New York City; son, David and wife, Janet, of Charlotte; son, Monte and wife, Amy, of Zionsville, IN; nieces Kirsten Mickelson of New York City, Janice Radke Roberts of North Augusta, SC, and Julie Seals of Franklin, NC; nephews Fred Kaplan of St. Augustine, FL, and Thor Mickelson of Minneapolis, MN; grandsons Devin and Andrew Mildenberg of Zionsville, IN, and Matthew Mildenberg of Charlotte, and granddaughter Molly Mildenberg of Zionsville, IN.

A memorial service will be held June 4 at 3:00 PM at Dilworth United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends after the service at 1704 Beverly Dr.6
