1827 moved from Ohio. Educated in log school house. Early learned shoemaker's trade & followed it for 10 years.
1843 moved to Jo Daviess County, Illinois, worked as a farm hand in Yankee Hollow, now Morseville.
1853 Married Almira (Rider) Hoyt.
Served as Township Supervisor, School Trustee, Assessor. Belonged to Plum River Lodge Masonics.
Almira died July, 1878. They had 11 children: Kossuth, Jeptha, Almon, Albert, Harriett, Eleazer, Cora & Flora (twins), Charles, Huldah, and Joseph.
2nd marriage: Feb. 18, 1884 to Arvilla Woodard, widow of Emory Woodard & daughter of Williman and Charlotte (Tucker) Starkey.2
