After the camp's liberation by American troops, he lived in Munich with Jerry Kohler and eventually went to Red Cross offices in Switzerland where he found that his cousin Gabriel Rosencwig had also survived. Although Jankelewicz was still living when the camp was liberated on May 5, he could not be saved. It may be that he was allowed to eat too heavily immediately after liberation; that occurred to many starvation victims before it became more widely known that too much immediate food was dangerous.7
