Biographical Details
| Name | Herschell Glotzer was also known as Hadley. |
| Biography | Jane Holberton wrote this biographical sketch of her grandfather and great-uncle:My grandfather - Herschel (Harry) Glotzer, born 1888 Pinsk; died 1953 near Cape Town. His brother -Morrie, born 1890 Pinsk; died also 1953, Conn. Their father,"a merchant" - Zev or Wolf (died before 1916); mother - name unknown. Herschel visited Morrie February 1919 and stayed 6 weeks at his home (44 Broad St, NewBritain, Conn.). Herschel managed a stationery company based in Manchester and his visits were also in connection with his work. He also visited New York in October - December 1919 and in April - June 1920. Herschel later changed his name from Glotzer to Hadley when he lived in Australia and used this name in South Africa, where he became a hotelier near Cape Town. He also made a visit to Brookline, Mass. in 1950.1 |

An old family story holds that a Harry Glotzer, related to us, came to visit from England around 1920. The 1919 Royal George manifest shows that the story is more than myth. He cited Robert Jacobs' fourth cousin, Maurice David Glotzer as his American contact. Maurice lived in New Britain, CT. I was told that he "drove up in a big car," and that the American Glotzers disliked him.3
