	Aka	Lena Schmulevitch was also known as Lena Kaufman. Her mother went by several first names - Lena, Leah, Liza and Lizzy Kaufman but was married several times. She was born around 1889 in Bessarabia (the principality of Moldavia - now the Republic of Moldova). Probably she was born in Kishinev. Her birth name was Schmulevich orSchmolevitch. She had an older brother Boris who changed his name to Boris Smilov when he came to America. He lived and died in Detroit.¹
