Sarah McDaniel was born between 1839 and 1840 at Talbot County, Georgia, She was listed as 10 years old on 19 Aug 1850 in the 1850 Census. Her birthday should fall somewhere between 19 Aug 1839 and 19 Aug 1840.1 She was the daughter of George McDaniel and Mariah Ann Flint(Flynt)`.1
Sarah McDaniel was probably included as a free white female, age under 5, in George McDaniel's household on the 1840 Census. At Talbot County, Georgia. The official date for this census was 1 June 1840. Facts gathered from this census included: George McDaniel household: (a) 1 Free White Male 20 and under 30, (b) 1 Free White Female under 5,and (c) 1 Free White Female 15 and under 20, (d)Total of 3 persons in the household (e) 2 of which were employed in Agriculture.COMMENT: This probably indicated the household was made of of George, his Mariah Ann and daughter under 5 years of age, Sarah. The age of George was probably mistakenly entered as 20-30 years instead of 30-40 years.The age of his wife Mariah Ann probably was mistakenly entered as 15-20 years when actually she was 20-30 years.2

The official date for this census was 1 June 1870. Facts gathered from this census included:Sarah A.Tilry was listed as a (a ) 31 year old, white, female; who was (b) a household member and probably wife of the Head of the Family, John R. Tilry. Her (c) occupation was keeping house. She (d) was born in Georgia.7 She and John Robert Tillery were divorced between 1872 and 1880 at Barbour County, Alabama; Between 1872 and 1880 Sarah McDaniel had separated or was divorced from John R. Tillery. The census data for 1880 indicates that she returned to Talbot County and lived next door to her father George McDaniel with he son Leonard Hollis and used the last name of Holllis. Her two sons by John R. Tillery remained in Alabama with their father.
