He and his first wife Mary had the following known children: Sarah (b 12 August 1665), Mark (b 17 December 1666), John (b 3 March 1669/70), Ann (b 6 March 1672/73), Samuel (b 27 March 1676).3,1
He probably had a second marriage, apparently to a woman named Sarah, sometime between 1677 and 1686. In the Topsfield vital records, "Mary, w. John" died 2 March 1676/77. And, the date of his marriage to Sarah Towne is listed as "bef. Dec. 20, 1686," which is the birth date of their daughter Lydia, implying that she was their first child. But there are three children listed as being born to John How between those dates - Joseph (b 28 April 1679), Mary (b 31 January 1680/81), and Elizabeth (b 22 March 1682/83, "d. John and Sarah").4,1
His will was dated 19 May 1725, and names his wife Sarah, children Sarah, John, Anne, Lydia, Benjamin, and Joseph, plus Isaac Cummings, a son of his unmarried daughter Lydia.1
