On 29 November 1675 he was impressed from Rowley, with 11 others, into service in King Philip's War under Capt. Samuel Brocklebank. He was in the "bloody action" on 19 December 1675, and participated in the capture of the fort at Narragansett.2 He also participated in the battle against the Indians in Sudbury, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, on 21 April 1676, where his captain and future father-in-law Samuel Brocklebank was killed.2
In 1677 he was granted 15 acres on the northeast side of Hunsley Hill in Rowley.2 Three years later, in 1680, he was granted 21 acres.2
He was appointed overseer of the western part of Rowley on 16 January 1673. He served on committees to lay out land to Daniel Wicom on 20 December 1677 ("20, 10, 1677"), and in "West end Ox pasture" on 21 February 1680. On 22 January 1677 [1677/78?] he helped determine those eligible for freeholds. He took an oath of allegiance on 10 December 1678. He served on juries on 10 March 1679, in March 1681, and on 28 March 1682. He was selected as a selectman in Rowley on 21 May 1688 and 6 May 1689. On 25 February 1694/95 he was chosen with three others to examine a house that had belonged to Ezekial Rogers to determine whether any of the timbers, etc., could be used in building another house for the town. He was chosen constable on 2 March 1694, and in March 1695, while constable, was fined 6s., 8d., "for not returning the warrant for Jurors seasonably, whereby the Court was much hindered." He served as a grand juryman on 13 April 1697, and was chosen tythingman on 14 March 1698/99, 16 March 1702/03, and 12 March 1705/06.2

His will was dated 26 February 1708/9. In it he left half of his land and house to his wife for her use while a widow, plus half of his moveable estate. She also was allowed to sell a wood lot to help finish a new house. His oldest son Samuel was to receive £10 more than his youngest son John, as long as he worked the farm for his mother until age 21. His sons were to receive 1/3 more than his daughters, who were to receive equal shares.5
His will was proved on 4 April 1709, and his real estate was valued at £292, 5s., and his personal estate at £80, 4s., 9d. The inventory included framing and materials for a new house, a total of 65 3/4 acres of land, cattle, carpenter tools, and books.5 The final distribution of the estate was made on 13 October 1712.6
