Roy Earl Evans may have been born on 13 March 1891 in Allegan Co., Michigan (see below). He was married by Alfred Way, clergyman, to Margaret Carter, daughter of Lorenzo Carter and Barbara Zinc, on 30 May 1910 in Ithaca, Gratiot Co., Michigan.4 He died on 26 June 1947 in Onondaga, Ingham Co., Michigan.6 He was buried at Rosehill Cemetery (Sect. N, Lot 44) in Eaton Rapids, Eaton Co., Michigan.7
Although he is listed here as Roy Earl Evans, his true given birth name has been difficult to determine. In most online records he is listed as Roy Earl (or Roy, Roy E., or Earl).4,8,9,1,2,3,10,5,11 In various other records, however, he appears as Elroy E.12,13, L. Roy14, Leroy E.15, Bert16, Roy Albert5, Albert Leroy5,6, and Albert R.7 Further complicating things is the existence of another Albert Evans, also with a wife named Margaret, living in Lansing, Michigan, during the same time period.17,18,19,20
His birth date and place are also difficult to pin down. His age listed in his marriage record and in the 1920 census indicate he was born about 1885 or 1886.4,3 His World War I draft registration says 14 June 1887, but his World War II draft registration and his death record both say 13 March 1891, which is consistent with his cemetery marker and his age listed in the 1930 and 1940 censuses.1,2,6,7,10,12 And Social Security records say 13 March 1893.5 Of these, the 13 March 1891 date fits well with the birth dates we have for his siblings.
He was probably born in Michigan, as listed in the 1920 and 1940 censuses (the 1930 census only says "US"), possibly in Allegan Co. as listed on his death certificate and as he stated in his two draft registrations.3,12,10,6,1,2 His marriage record inexplicably says he was born in Duluth, Minnesota, and the 1921 death certificate for his unnamed infant son also says Minnesota, but we have no record of his parents ever being there.4,9
All the above is summarized in the following table.

Although there is considerable variation in the records for his given name, and his birth date, there is little doubt these all refer to the same person. He is always listed with a wife Margaret in the Lansing city directory, and their adult son Harry and/or Margaret's daughter Muriel were often living with them or next door. And his parents are listed as Albert Evans and Mable Burlingham in his marriage record, where he is called Earl, and in Social Security records, where he was listed as Roy Earl in May 1937, Albert Leroy in July 1943, and Roy Albert in March 1965. His death record, where he is listed as Albert Leroy, names his mother as Emma Burlingham, but doesn't name his father.4,5,6
He and his wife Margaret lived in or near Lansing, Ingham Co., Michigan, most of their married lives. They are listed in the town of Lansing in the 1920 census, along with Margaret's daughter Muriel from her first marriage (listed as Muriel Evans), and their son Harry.3 They are again listed in Lansing in the 1930 census, in the same house as Muriel and her first husband Costa Devers, and Harry and his first wife June.10 They are listed in Lansing Twp., Ingham Co., Michigan, in the 1940 census, next door to Muriel and her second husband Harry Brown and their family.12
He worked several jobs throughout his life. At the time of his marriage he listed his occupation as farmer. He was working as a laborer in 1916, as a stone mason in 1917, as a steam engineer in a factory in 1920, as a carpenter from 1922-25, as a truck driver for the Armour meat company from 1930-35, for the W.P.A. in 1939, and as a truck driver for a coal company in 1940.4,21,1,3,10,12

She and her second husband Roy lived in or near Lansing, Ingham Co., Michigan, most of their married lives. They are listed in the town of Lansing in the 1920 census, along with Margaret's daughter Muriel from her first marriage (listed as Muriel Evans), and their son Harry.6 They are again listed in Lansing in the 1930 census, in the same house as Muriel and her first husband Costa Devers, and Harry and his first wife June.7 They are listed in Lansing Twp., Ingham Co., Michigan, in the 1940 census, next door to Muriel and her second husband Harry Brown and their family.8

Children of Margaret Carter and Vernon Buskard

Vernon and Margaret apparently had a second child, in addition to Muriel, who died before their divorce in 1909. In their divorce record they are listed as having one minor child, but in the 1910 census Margaret is listed as having had two children, with one then living.3,5
