He served on the manorial court jury in 1559, 1560, 1561, and 1563.1 His will was dated 28 November 1570 and proved on 15 March 1570/71. He left his estate to his wife Elizabeth. After her death his daughter Dorothie was to receive a two-acre parcel of land, and the rest was to go to his son Thomas and his heirs, provided he pay Dorothie £7 within three years. His wife Elizabeth was named executrix.1

He lived in Tostock, co. Suffolk, England.1 Sometime between 1485 and 1500 he and Robert Byxby were sued by William Thorpe of London, who claimed that they had failed to pay rent of £4.3.4 for lands and tenements at Thorp Morieux, and that they had forged a cancellation note for the rent. The result of the suit is unknown.1
His will was dated 23 January 1508/9. He left various parcels of land and buildings to his sons John, Nicholas, and Robert. His wife Margaret was to have three of his cows, plus "all such goods as she had of her own at the time of making of this will." He also left money to the "high altar," to the churches in Tostock and Thorpe, and to three sets of friars for "half a trental" each (i.e., a total of 45 masses), plus "a quart of rye for a priest to sing for me & my friends where my body lieth."1

His will was dated 1 July 1549. He left all his moveables and her room to his wife Katherine, who was to be supported by his son-in-law William Whight. His daughter Margaret and her husband William Whight received a house and land. Other property and money was left to Margaret and William's children, to be paid by William at the time of their marriage.1

On 21 September 1440 Nicholas Byxby "did fealty" (i.e., acknowledged loyalty to his feudal lord) for ten acres of his father's land in Thorp Morieux. Threlfall speculates that this may have been in conjuction with his marriage, and he was being given his own property to farm.1
He and his father were listed in the manor records of Thorp Morieux as chief pledges (i.e., head of a group of tithingmen, or reprentatives of ten households, responsible for maintaining order) on 16 June 1438, 12 May 1445, 11 October 1445, 23 October 1447, 1 August 1452, and 23 July 1453.1 He served on a jury of inquest on 17 March 1449/50 and again on 13 October 1450.1
On 15 June 1441 he was fined 3d for trespassing in the lord's woods with a horse.1 He was fined 3d on 12 May 1445, and again on 13 October 1450, both times for not cleaning a ditch.1 On 4 January 1450/51 he and his father were each fined 3d for defaulting in a suit.1 They were again in court the next day, along with other tithingmen of Felsham, indicating that they may have had land there, in addition to Thorp Morieux.1
It should be noted that in his NEHGR article, Threlfall lists Thomas Byxby as the son of Nicholas Byxby, as opposed to Nicholas's brother Robert, because Thomas named one of his sons Nicholas, as did other descendants in that line. The name Nicholas does not appear among the known descendants of Robert.1

He was probably the son of John Bekesby of Felsham, a parish adjacent to Thorp Morieux.1 In 1427 he, with John Leverych and William Queynt, bought sixty acres of land plus two acres of pasture and two acres of meadow in Thorp Morieux, co. Suffolk, England, including appurtenances, from Peter Bonefaunt and John Tyler for 20 marks.1
Walter Byxby served on an inquest jury on 9 October 1441, and again a year later when he was fined 12d on 25 October 1442 for not being prepared to decide his verdict. On 19 March 1444/45 he was fined 12d for trespassing in the lord's woods at Hastyngeswode, and 6d for trespassing at Thorpwode. He also served as part of a group charged with assessing fines.1
On 12 May 1445 he was granted a 40-year lease, at 7s/year, for 21 acres, 5 perches, of land named Casshecroft.1
His will was dated 18 June 1459 and proved on 21 November 1459. His wife was left all of his household goods, various livestock, grain, and malt, his best plow and cart, and £19 6s 8d. She was also to be given two quarters of malt each year by her son Robert. She also received the use of two lower rooms at the west end of his house, the rooms above them, the adjacent courtyard, and a room in the courtyard. He left 10 marks cash to his son Nicholas, 100s to his daughter Hawis, and 12d to each of his godsons. Money was also bequeathed to the churches of Thorp Morieux and Felsham, and to the brothers of Clare, Babwell, Sudbury, and Ipswich.1
