     Edward C. Degner was born about 1876 in Illinois.1 He married Emma Maria Sophia Hogrefe, daughter of Frederich Heinrich Wilhelm Hogrefe and Dorothea Wilhelmine Janke, on 4 May 1905 in Coon Twp., Buena Vista Co., Iowa.2 He died in August 1952.3 He was buried at Saint Paul Cemetery in Webster Co., Iowa.3
     In 1910 Edward C. Degner and his wife Emma were living in Coon Twp., Buena Vista Co., Iowa. Living with them were Edward's mother Dora and sister Emeline, and a boarder, Fred Reincke.4 He and Emma were living in Storm Lake in Buena Vista Co. in 1920.5 They moved to Webster Co., Iowa, sometime before 1925.1 He was living in Ft. Dodge, Webster Co., Iowa, in 1930.6
     His occupation is listed as a farmer in the 1910 census, teamster for a coal company in 1920, and coal passer at a gypsum mill in 1930.4,5,6
