Edith Lynde Abbot was born on 6 March 1872 in Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts.1 She married Albert Montgomery Dupuy McCormick, son of Edward McCormick and Ellen Lane Jett, on 25 October 1894 at St. Paul's Church in Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co., Wisconsin.2,3 She died on 2 February 1931 at her home in Washington, D.C., at age 58 after a long illness.4 She was buried on 5 February 1931 at Arlington National Cemetery (Section E, Grave No. 3566) in Arlington, Virginia.5
In September 1899, when her husband Albert was serving in the Navy as a surgeon on the cruiser USS Montgomery, and she and their young children Lynde and Edith were living in Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts, she decided to join her husband in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the Montgomery was expected to be stationed for several months. She and her children sailed from New York on the steamship Nile, arriving at the harbor in Rio two weeks later. The Montgomery was also there, and a boat was sent over from the Nile, returning with several crewmen. Passengers on the Nile who had learned of her trip were scanning the group looking for her husband, who was finally spotted. She had planned to stay in Rio with friends, but because of a yellow fever outbreak there the Nile was quarantined and passengers were not allowed ashore. So her husband came to the Nile whenever he was off duty.
The Montgomery was soon sent to sea on a three-week cruise, and Edith traveled with the Nile to Pernambuco, Brazil, where she and her children spent most of October. They later traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and by January 1900 were in Montevideo, Uruguay, where the Montgomery was then stationed.6
By June 1900, when she was enumerated in the census, her husband was still on the Montgomery in Montevideo, but she and their children had returned to the United States and were living with her mother-in-law Ellie McCormick in Battletown Twp., Clarke Co., Virginia.7,8 She and Albert are listed with their children in Annapolis, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, in the 1910 census9, in Berkeley, Alameda Co., California, in 192010, and in Washington, D.C., in 1930.11
She was a member of the Colonial Dames of America, the Army and Navy chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Lloyd Williams Post of the American Legion Auxiliary of Berryville, Virginia, and was an active volunteer in the work of her church, and for Navy relief efforts.4

Children of Sanford Arthur Mathews and Maude M. Evans

Sanford and Maude probably had one child, who died young. In the 1910 census, enumerated on 16 April 1910, Maude is listed as having had one child with none then living. Since she married her second husband John L. McGee seven months earlier, it's probable that the father was her first husband Sanford Mathews.5
