On 1 April 1698, twenty days before their mother Mary was remarried to Erasmus Babbitt, he and his brothers Elihu, Joseph, and Oliver chose their brother James Babcock as their guardian, replacing their mother.7
He bought land in Westerly, Providence Co., Rhode Island, from Job Babcock, Jr., on 6 January 1706/7.8 On 19 May 1710 he and his brother John, along with ten others, bought 2684 acres of land known as the "Maxson Purchase" from the colony of Rhode Island.9 He was deeded land from his brother Joseph on 31 August 1710.10
In September 1712 he and his wife Lydia were members of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Westerly, which in 1903 was known as the First Hopkinton Seventh Day Baptist Church in Ashaway, Rhode Island.1
His will was dated 26 August 1719 in Westerly, apparently made on his deathbed, and proved 7 September 1719. In it he says, "Being very sick in body but of perfect mind and memory, I give and bequeath all my personal property to beloved wife Lydia." He left all his real estate to his son Robert, who was to receive half at age 21, and the rest when his mother Lydia died or remarried. He also names all his other children except Remember, who was born six months later.1
The day after his death, Joseph Stanton, justice of Westerly, sent the following letter to Gov. Cranston at Newport:
Honnored Sur:
these with grief com to Inform Your Honner that yesterday Robert babcock of this town departed this life and it is to be feared that the caus of his deth came by abuse or hurt that he Reseved.
