He came to Salem, Massachusetts, in 1633.1 He and his wife Tacy moved to Connecticut from Watertown, Massachusetts, in the "terrible winter of 1635," after being persecuted for their Baptist religious beliefs in Massachusetts.1 They moved to Rhode Island in 1648.1
