She came to New England with her father sometime between 19 May 1633 and 1636.3
Hoover says that after their marriage she and her husband Jacob lived in Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts, for 12 years (i.e., from 1657 to 1669), then moved to Topsfield. However, Jacob was named as a commoner in Topsfield in 1661, and all their children are listed as being born in Topsfield.1,2
She was named in her husband's will, dated 24 November 1704 and proved 1 January 1704/05. She was to be provided for by her son John and daughter Ruth, in return for their shares of their father's estate.2,1

He was named executor of his father's will, dated 24 November 1704 and proved 1 January 1704/05. He and his sister Ruth were to have equal shares of their father's homestead that wasn't already disposed of, including the buildings and moveables. In return they were to provide for their mother Catharine and brother Edmund, and to pay their father's debts and funeral expenses.4,1
After their marriage, he and his wife Mary lived in Topsfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts.2 He was active there in the town's affairs, often serving as constable, fence viewer, and surveyor of highways, bridges, and fences.2
They moved to Salem End (now Framingham), Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, in 16985,2, where he acquired 211 acres of land from Joseph Buckminister, at first through a lease, then a purchase in March 1711 for £72.2 When the area was incorporated as the town of Framingham, he was chosen as Selectman at the first town meeting, on 5 August 1700, and was elected to the same office in several later years.2
On 11 September 1706 he sold his interest in his father's estate in Topsfield to his brother Jacob Towne for £55.6
He sold 190 acres to Jonathan Maynard on 29 May 17132, and moved to Oxford, Suffolk Co. (now Worcester Co.), Massachusetts, where his sons Israel and Ephraim were among the original land owners.2 At the first town meeting, held on 22 July 1713, he was elected Town Clerk and selectman.2 He and three others formed an early comittee to consider the establishment of a church in Oxford, and he was chosen as deacon when it was formed on 21 January 1721.2
He and members of his family dropped the "e" from their surname after moving to Oxford in 1713.2

He was a farmer, living on part of his father's land in Topsfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts.3 In his father's will, dated 11 December 1685 and proved 10 Sep 1686, he and his brothers Thomas and Timothy, and their sons, were left "all the farm I do live on." Their mother was to live in his house with Thomas and Timothy "if they can possibly agree, for I do think it will be best for them to carry on together." If they were to split apart, they, along with Elisha, were each to pay their mother £2 yearly. Also, if Thomas and Timothy were to split apart, 1/4 of the income from the orchard was to go to Elisha. He also received various livestock.1
He held many public offices in Topsfield, including: clerk of selectmen from 1705-1708; fence viewer in 1708, 1711, 1717, 1720, and 1723; grand juryman in 1708, 1709, 1715, 1718, 1721, and 1725; selectman in 1710, 1712, 1716, and 1724; and highway surveyor in 1717.6
In 1720 he deeded two acres of land, plus an island (in the Ipswich River?) containing two acres of upland and meadow, to his son John.3 In 1739 he gave his sons John, Jacob, and Joseph the land that he had purchased from Jacob, William, and Samuel Towne in 1702/03.3

He was probably lame, possibly from birth. This conclusion is based on the terms of his father's will providing for his care, and on the will of John Davis of Topsfield, dated 16 May 1672 when Edmund was age 5, in which he mentions "Jacob Townes' lame child."1
