After their marriage, he and his wife Anna probably moved with her parents to Sutton, Suffolk Co. (now Worcester Co.), Massachusetts; they were clearly living there by 1728.1 He sold 35 acres of land in Sutton to Thomas Lovell on 19 June 1731.1 In August 1735 Anna's sister Phebe was paid £1 by the town for caring for their family.1
On 26 November 1767, in Craven Co., South Carolina, he and his second wife Zerviah gave all their land, cattle, and furnishings to "my son" (William's son) Jephthah.1
He and his first wife Anna had the following known children, probably all born in Sutton, Massachusetts: John (b 1726, d bef 6 July 1801), Jesse (b abt 1730, d 26 June 1800), Thomas (b abt 1730), Jeptha (b 15 February 1737/38, d 9 December 1797).1

She may be the widow who died after a long illness at age 72, on 9 April 1779 in Sutton, Worcester Co., Massachusetts.1

He served during the Revolutionary War, first enlisting about 1 May 1775 in Capt. Crosby's Company, Col. Read's Regiment. He was at the Battle of Bunker Hill on 17 June 1775, and was discharged after eight months. He again enlisted in February 1881, and served until the end of the war in 1783, when he was in Capt. Isaac Haye's Company, 2nd (7th?) New Hampshire Regiment.1
He and Mercy had the following known children, all born in Nelson, Cheshire Co., New Hampshire: Hannah (b 10 July 1773), Nathaniel (b 15 July 1775), Nabby (b 23 August 1777), John (b 22 June 1780), Phineas (b 7 December 1782), William (b 23 April 1791).1
