     Nathan Leach was baptized on 11 March 1770 (the Leach genealogy says 11 March 1773) at the First Parish Unitarian Church in Beverly, Essex Co., Massachusetts.^1,2 He probably died young, as Beverly Vital Records include a second son of Asa Leach named Nathan who was baptized four years later.¹

     Thomas Tharp was born about 1772 in Mispillion Hundred, Kent Co., Delaware.¹ He married Hannah Hitchcock, daughter of William Hitchcock IV and Hannah Coffin, on 29 March 1792 in Rowan Co., North Carolina.¹ He died about 1834 (based on the fact that after 1834 he was no longer listed in the Perry Twp. personal property tax duplicate) in Perry Twp., Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹
     He moved to Rowan Co., North Carolina, with his parents about 1778.¹
     He and his wife Hannah moved to Montgomery Co., Ohio, in 1802.³ On 14 October 1813 he received a federal grant of 205 acres of land in Perry Twp., Montgomery Co., Ohio, including the southwest quarter of Section 31, Township 5, Range 4 east.¹ He is listed in Montgomery Co. in the 1820 and 1830 censuses, in Butler Twp. in 1820 and in Perry Twp. in 1830.¹ He is also listed in the Land Tax Duplicate for Perry Twp. from 1820 to 1839, and in the Personal Property Tax Duplicate from 1820 to 1834.¹

     Hannah Hitchcock was born about 1773.¹ She married Thomas Tharp, son of Thomas Tharp and Elizabeth Pegg, on 29 March 1792 in Rowan Co., North Carolina.¹ She died before 1830 in Perry Twp., Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹
     She and her husband Thomas moved to Montgomery Co., Ohio, in 1802.²

     William Hitchcock IV married Hannah Coffin.¹

     Mary Tharp was born in 1794 in Rowan Co., North Carolina.¹ She married Josh Pegg on 19 September 1816 in Twin Twp., Preble Co., Ohio.¹

     Josh Pegg married Mary Tharp, daughter of Thomas Tharp and Hannah Hitchcock, on 19 September 1816 in Twin Twp., Preble Co., Ohio.¹

     Thomas Tharp was born in 1796 in Rowan Co., North Carolina.¹ He married Margaret Norex on 14 May 1818 in Lanier Twp., Preble Co., Ohio.¹

     Margaret Norex was born about 1797.¹ She married Thomas Tharp, son of Thomas Tharp and Hannah Hitchcock, on 14 May 1818 in Lanier Twp., Preble Co., Ohio.¹

     Beniah Tharp was born on 15 September 1798 near Rich Fork of Abbots Creek in Rowan Co. (now Davidson Co.), North Carolina.² He married first Jane Van Cleve, daughter of William Van Cleve and Effie Westfall, on 16 April 1823 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio.² He married second Harriet Sturr, daughter of Jacob Sturr and Elizabeth (?), on 3 January 1843 in Preble Co., Ohio.² He died on 14 March 1875 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at age 76.² He was buried on 17 March 1875 at Woodland Cemetery in Montgomery Co., Ohio.²
     He moved with his parents to Ohio in 1802.² He became a brick maker, with his brickyard and home on Brown St. in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio.² He also served as a trustee in Dayton, being first elected on 5 March 1831, and re-elected in 1832.²
     He and his first wife Jane moved to Wayne Twp., Montgomery Co., Ohio, probably in the late 1830s, to land previously owned by her father. Jane and her brothers and sisters had inherited the land after their father's death, and Beniah purchased her sibling's shares by 23 February 1835.²
     In 1867 he moved back to Dayton with his second wife Harriet, into a five-room house at the corner of Clay and Van Buren Streets. They did extensive remodeling, including the addition of an "elaborate Italianate Victorian front," and a large upstairs master bedroom. The house, at 27 Van Buren St., is now part of Dayton's historic Oregon District.²

     Nancy Tharp was born in 1802 in Rowan Co., North Carolina.² She married Job Worth Swain on 3 September 1823 in Preble Co., Ohio.² She died after 1880.²
     She and Job had the following known children: Jane H. (b abt 1826), Nancy (b abt 1833), plus two other daughters and three sons.²

     Margaret Tharp was born in 1810 in Montgomery Co., Ohio.² She married Peter McFarland on 2 April 1830 in Twin Twp., Preble Co., Ohio.² She died about 1839 in Richmond, Wayne Co., Indiana.²
     She and Peter had four known children, three sons and one daughter.²

     Jane Van Cleve was born on 18 September 1802 in Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹ She married Beniah Tharp, son of Thomas Tharp and Hannah Hitchcock, on 16 April 1823 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹ She died on 13 March 1839 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at age 36.¹ Her original burial place is unknown, but her body was re-interred on 26 May 1866 at Woodland Cemetery (section 96, lot 1150, grave 6) in Montgomery Co., Ohio.²

     He was a tailor.² After their marriage he and his wife Anna lived in Xenia, Greene Co., Ohio, in the same household as Samuel Wright, probably Anna's brother, and his family.² In 1860 they were living in Spring Valley Twp., Greene Co., Ohio.² By 1866 they had moved to Keowee St. in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio,² and in 1874 they were living at 607 East 2nd. St. in Dayton.² Shortly afterwards they moved into William's father Beniah's home in Dayton, probably to care for him, as they were living there when he died in 1875. William was still listed as living there in the 1876 city directory.²
     He and Anna had two known children, William Alphonso (b 1 March 1850, d 3 May 1903) and Charles W. (b 1856).³

     Mary Eliza Tharp was born in 1827 in Montgomery Co., Ohio.² She married William Wagner on 10 September 1848 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio.² She died on 12 October 1895 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio.²
     She and William had one known child, Esther (b 1849, d 1864).²

     Beniah Wilbur Tharp was born on 7 July 1844 in Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹ He died on 21 August 1863 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at age 19.¹ He was buried on 23 August 1863 at Woodland Cemetery (section 96, lot 1150, grave 4) in Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹
     He served during the Civil War in the 110th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, enlisting on 18 August 1862. In June of 1863 the regiment was positioned near Winchester, Frederick Co., Virginia, as part of a 5000-man division. On 14 June they were attacked by Confederate forces led by Gen. Ewell, in what was later known as the Second Battle of Winchester. Beniah was wounded, and captured the next day along with most of his division. He was apparently released or exchanged, as he died in Dayton, Ohio, just over two months later.¹

     Silsbee Simion Tharp was born on 2 September 1846 in Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹ He died on 28 March 1869 at age 22.¹ He was buried at Woodland Cemetery (section 96, lot 1150, grave 3) in Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹

     Anna Marie Wright was born in 1830 in Maryland.¹ She married William Van Cleve Tharp, son of Beniah Tharp and Jane Van Cleve, on 15 April 1849 in Xenia, Greene Co., Ohio.¹ She died in 1889 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹

     Job Worth Swain was born on 22 October 1795 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.¹ He married Nancy Tharp, daughter of Thomas Tharp and Hannah Hitchcock, on 3 September 1823 in Preble Co., Ohio.¹ He died on 29 July 1846 in Richmond, Wayne Co., Indiana, at age 50.¹
     He and Nancy had the following known children: Jane H. (b abt 1826), Nancy (b abt 1833), plus two other daughters and three sons.¹

     Peter McFarland was born about 1801.¹ He married Margaret Tharp, daughter of Thomas Tharp and Hannah Hitchcock, on 2 April 1830 in Twin Twp., Preble Co., Ohio.¹
     He and Margaret had four known children, three sons and one daughter.¹

     Thomas Tharp was born about 1744 in Talbot Co., Maryland.¹ He married Elizabeth Pegg, daughter of William Pegg and Margaret (?), about 1764 in Kent Co., Delaware.¹ He died about 1800 (or perhaps after 1803, given his land sales that year) in Rowan Co., North Carolina.¹
     He lived in Mispillion Hundred, Kent Co., Delaware, from at least 1760 to 1768, where he appears in the tax lists for those years.¹ In 1777 he sold a tract of land in Kent Co., Delaware, that he had purchased from Nathaniel Lauff in 1771, to Waitman Booth.¹
     About 1778 many Nicholite (or "New Quaker") familes moved from Delaware to Guilford Co., North Carolina, including several of his wife Elizabeth's relatives, who had become Nicholite followers in the 1760s. He and Elizabeth probably joined them.¹ He was granted land in Rowan Co., North Carolina, on 23 July 1779¹, and again on 9 June 1786.¹ On 9 August 1787, for 50 shillings he received 100 acres along the Second Rich Fork of Abbotts Creek in Rowan Co.¹ On 27 November 1793 he bought for £10 "the 100 acres; 201 acres of land (or at the bottom of the grant, 101 acres)," also along Rich Fork.¹
     He sold 140 acres in Rowan Co. to his daughter Lettitia's husband Josiah Smith in 1790¹, plus 34 1/4 adjoining acres on Rich Fork for £5 in October 1794.¹
     On 6 August 1803 he sold 402 acres along Rich Fork to Charles Collett for £500¹, and on 24 September 1803 he sold 172 acres along Rich Fork to Charles's brother James Collett for £100.¹
