His will was dated 6 October 1697 and proved on 19 November. To his brother Robert, who was named executor, he left 1/16 of the brigantine George and his rights in the cargo, his horse, and his negro man Will. To his "cousin" Robert, son of his brother Robert, he left his "little silver beaded case." The rest of his estate, including a negro boy, was left to his "cousin" George, son of his brother Robert.1

She went by the name Sallie.2,9,4 She and her husband Harvey moved to Illinois soon after their marriage in 1858, based on the birth date and location of their son Edward10, and are listed in Montezuma Twp., Pike Co., Illinois, in the 1860 census.10 They are listed in Hassan Twp., Hennepin Co., Minnesota, in 1865 in the Minnesota state census.3 They moved to St. George Twp., Benton Co., Minnesota, that same year2, and are listed there in the 187011 and 1880 censuses.9 Her husband's parents Lauren and Maria Norton were living with them in 1865, but moved back to Ohio by 1870.3,12 She and Harvey moved to Niobrara, Knox Co., Nebraska, sometime between 1880 and 188513, and are listed there in the 1885 Nebraska state census.13
In 1900 she was still living in Niobrara, although her husband Harvey was then living at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Grand Island, Hall Co., Nebraska. Living with her in Niobrara were her divorced daughter Laura and two of her children, and her widowed daughter Bertha and two of her children.4,14 She soon joined her husband, however, as they were both living at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in 1902.15 She continued living there after Harvey moved to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, Western Branch, in Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas in 1903.16,17

He and his wife Lucina were living in Parkman Twp., Geauga Co., Ohio, in 1840.6 They moved to Cayuga Co., New York, by 1848, where their daughter Medora Helen was born on 6 January.7 In 1850 they were living in Arkwright, Chautauqua Co., New York. Living with them were J. Norton (age 20, born in New York) and Stillman Norton (22, born in Massachusetts).8 They were living in Avon Twp., Lake Co., Illinois, in 1860, about 15 miles from Palatine, Cook Co., Illinois, where Lucina's parents, and her sister Matilda's family, were then living.9,10,11
He and his brother-in-law Orange Norton served during the Civil War as privates in Co. E of the 113th Illinois Infantry, both enlisting on 11 August 1862. The regiment was mustered into service on 1 October 1862, and left Camp Hancock near Chicago for Memphis, Tennessee, on 6 November. They were part of the Vicksburg Campaign, and participated in the Battles of Chickasaw Bayou from 26-29 December, a Union defeat, and Arkansas Post from 9-11 January 1863, a Union victory, although the regiment suffered heavy losses. From 17-22 January the regiment moved to Young's Point, Louisiana. He was discharged for disability on 8 February.12,13,14
In 1867, after the war, he and his wife Lucina moved to Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota,15 where they lived the rest of their lives.15,16,17,18,19,20
Ira Buck's obituary says he had five daughters and one son, but census entries suggest that he and Lucina had six daughters and one son: Amelia (b abt 1840), James S. (b abt 1841), Elmina (b abt 1846, possibly d bef 1860), Medora Helen (b 6 January 1848, d 27 March 1874), Sarah (b abt 1852), Emma S. (b abt 1854), Francis (b abt 1859).15,21,9,16,22

- [S1604] Wisconsin Deaths and Burials, 1835-1968. Record for Madere Helen Lampe, FHL Film 1310174, Ref. No. 2112. This transcription lists her parents as Ira and Luzina Buck.
- [S3154] 1850 U.S. Census, J. D. Rutt household, Chautauqua Co., New York. This census entry appears to list the head of the household as "J. D. Rutt" (age 35, born in New York, carpenter and joiner). The identification of this as the family of Ira D. Buck is based on the similarity between these entries and other census entries, along with Ira's daughter Medora's death record, and his wife's maiden name. The others listed in 1850 are Lucinda (33, New York), Amelia (11, New York), James (9, Ohio), Elmina (4, New York), and Medora (1, New York), along with J. Norton and Stillman Norton. Except for Elmina, who is not listed in 1860, these names, ages, and birth places are generally consistent with those listed in Ira Buck's household in 1860, which lists I. D. Buck (45, New York), Luanda (42, New York), A. M. (20, New York), James S. (18, Ohio), and Helln M. (12, New York), along with the younger children Sarah, E. S., and Francis. In the 1870 and 1880 censuses Ira's occupation is listed as carpenter. Ira's daughter Medora's death record lists her name as Madere Helen (Buck), indicating that Medora Buck in 1850 and Helln M. Buck in 1860 are the same person. In addition, Ira's wife was Lucina Norton, and two Norton men were living with the "J. D. Rutt" family in 1850. And finally, the following family in the census is that of J. Tinker, who has been identified as the husband of Lucina's deceased sister Lucinda. Taken together all this indicates strongly that this is Ira D. Buck and his family.
