At the January 1710 Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends (Quakers) in Dartmouth, Bristol Co., Massachusetts, he asked for approval to apprentice his son to John Russell.2 However, he later fell out of favor with the Quakers. At the 21 Jul 1719 (21 7mo 1719) Monthly Meeting, he was cited for "bargaining in an underhanded way," which he appealed to the Quarterly Meeting. In 1721 his daughters Hannah and Mary were cited for marrying outside the order, and he was cited for not disapproving their marriages. He ended up being disowned by the Society in 1722.2
On 6 May 1723 his sons William and George, along with Nathaniel Soule and John Macomber, posted bond as administrators of his estate.2 His estate was divided on 8 May 1725. His widow Hannah received a third, and shares were distributed to his sons George, Joseph, Samuel, and Jonathan, and his daughters Hannah Holley, Mary Page, and Sarah Howland. His sons William and Benjamin, and daughters Deborah and Alice, had all previously received their shares.2
He and Hannah had the following known children, all born in Dartmouth, Bristol Co., Massachusetts: William (b 28 August 1692, d 29 October 1734), Hannah (b 1 June 1694, prob d abt 1738), George (b 5 October 1695, d abt February 1784), Benjamin (b 14 May 1698, prob d bef 1769), Mary (b 23 January 1698/99, d bet 8 May 1725 and 2 June 1727), Joseph (b 8 November 1701, d bef 18 December 1739), Sarah (b 8 November 1703, d 26 March 1746), Alice (b 15 February 1705/06, d 1 February 1731), Samuel (b 26 June 1708, d aft 1777), Jonathan (b 15 December 1710, d bef 2 November 1779), Deborah (b 1 January 1711/12, d abt 1757).3

On 16 September 1730 ("16 9mo 1730"), he was cited by the Dartmouth Society of Friends Monthly Meeting for encouraging his son George to miss the meeting, after George had been cited the previous month for getting the daughter of Jacob Soule (apparently Elizabeth) pregnant. His will was dated 9 November 1735 and proved on 19 October 1736. It names his father George, wife Mary, sons John, George, Cornelius, and Timothy, and daughters Content Soule and Mary Soul.2

She and her husband John apparently moved to Carteret Co., North Carolina, sometime after their marriage.2 She moved back to Dartmouth, Bristol Co., Massachusetts, soon after her husband's death in 1755.2 On 3 August 1756 ("3 8mo 1756"), after her husband's death, she was dismissed from the Society of Friends Monthly Meeting in Core Sound, Carteret Co., North Carolina, to the New England Monthly Meeting.2 She apparently lived with her nephew John Soule, son of her brother Nathan. In his will, dated 9 November 1768, John left her the "best chamber in his house" for use during her life.2
Before her marriage, she had a daughter Elizabeth Wheaton, born 12 May 1706 and died 20 October 1744, by John Wheaton, son of John and Elizabeth Wheaton. She and John apparently never married, and John died 20 February 1705/06, before his daughter was born.3
