He married first Lois Elvira Webster, daughter of Jacob Webster and Ruth Webster Culver, on 30 August 1835. They had a daughter, Clara Elvira Sutliff, born in Hebron on 12 August 1840. Lois died 12 October 1845 in Bolton, Tolland Co., Connecticut. Henry and his daughter Clara moved to Illinois in the fall of 1850. He eventually moved to Glenwood, Mills Co., Iowa, where he died 4 November 1884.
