Joseph Tryon was "baptized privately" on 3 March 1771 in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.1
No further information has been found on this Joseph Tryon. However, church records for Eastbury show that on 10 September 1801 a Russell Tryon hanged himself, and a month later, on 10 October 1801, this Joseph's parents both joined in full Communion with the church. In a Connecticut Nutmegger article, Lynn McManus suggests that Joseph and Russell may be the same person.2,3,4

Jonathan Strickland1

b. 16 August 1778, d. 12 January 1848
FatherBenjamin Strickland2
Jonathan Strickland was baptized on 16 August 1778 at the Eastbury Church in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.2 He married Polly Tryon, daughter of Joseph Tryon and Abigail Benton, on 11 February 1802 at the Eastbury Church in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.1 He died on 12 January 1848 (his newspaper death notice says 11 January 1848) in Hebron, Tolland Co., Connecticut, at age 69.3,4 He was buried at Buckingham Cemetery in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.3
On 11 April 1803 he bought his brother-in-law George Tryon's farm and oil mill in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut, for £1000.5,6
He appears to have had a somewhat contentious relationship with the Eastbury Church. He and his wife Polly joined the church ("entered into covenant") on 12 June 1803, and his children were baptized there. However, the church records show that he filed complaints against Walter Wier on 7 January and 1 February 1825, and against Francis Loveland on 3 April 1833, and on 10 February 1830 a complaint was filed against him by Leonard E. Hale. He is mentioned in votes taken on 19 May 1828, 30 April 1830 (when his confession was accepted), and 12 May 1835, and possibly on 11 September 1835 (named only as "Mr. Strickland"). Another note for him, on 10 February 1830 says "ch. discip." He was either excommunicated or withdrew from the church on 30 October 1834, and "watch & care [was] withdrawn" on the same date.7,8,9,10,11
He was living in Glastonbury in 1840, presumably with his wife Polly, since his household included a female aged 50-59.12 He apparently later moved to Hebron, Tolland Co., Connecticut, perhaps after his wife's death in 1845, as his death notice describes him as being "formerly of Glastonbury."4

David Nye1

b. 29 September 1760, d. 9 September 1832
FatherMeletiah Nye2 b. 21 Apr 1734, d. 4 Aug 1794
MotherHannah Hubbard2
David Nye was born on 29 September 1760 in Tolland, Hartford Co. (now Tolland Co.), Connecticut.3,4 He married Honor Tryon, daughter of Joseph Tryon and Abigail Benton, probably in October or November 1781, at the Eastbury Church in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.1,5,6,7,8,9 He died on 9 September 1832 in Berlin, Washington Co., Vermont, at age 71.10 He was buried at East Road Cemetery in Berlin, Washington Co., Vermont.10
He served with the Connecticut troops during the Revolutionary War. He first enlisted in late May or early June 1776 as a musician for six months in Capt. Samuel Wells' Co., Col. Fisher Gray's Reg., and was discharged 25 December 1776. He rejoined the militia in September 1777 for six weeks service, again as a musician. During this service he delivered the news to Gen. Putnam of the capture of Gen. Burgoyne's army, and wrote that "the Genl. pulled off his hat, 'Hurrahed,' & flung it into the air." In the summer of 1778 he served for one month as a soldier, and for six weeks, starting the last of July or first of August, as a sergeant in Capt. Amidon's Co., Col. Howell Woodbridge's Reg. He again served as a sergeant in 1779, for two months under Capt. Benoni Smith. In 1780 he served one month in July or August, and two months from August to September as a musician in Col. Willis' Reg.4
He and his wife Honor moved to Berlin, Orange Co. (now Washington Co.), Vermont, in 17904, where he chaired the first town meeting in 1791, and served as town clerk for several years.3
The Nye genealogy says David and Honor had six children - David, Prudence, and Polly, and three others who died young. However, records have been found for just five, with Honor, David, and Prudence living to maturity. No record has been found for a daughter Polly.3

The Ancestry database Early Connecticut Marriages lists dates of 11 October 1781 (citing Book 7, p. 106) and 12 October 1782 (Book 5, p. 105); Eastbury church records has the date as 19 October 1781; and the Nye genealogy says 11 November 1781. The 12 October 1782 date is likely incorrect, since Eastbury church records also list "David Nye and wife Onnor" as renewing their Covenant and being admitted to Communion on 9 June 1782.

FatherPeter Knapp1,3 d. 1804
MotherJerusha Owen1,3 b. 25 May 1745
David Knapp was born on 10 July 1783 in Hanover, Grafton Co., New Hampshire.1 He was married by James Hobart, Minister, to Prudence Nye, daughter of David Nye and Honor Tryon, on 31 March 1807 in Berlin, Orange Co. (now Washington Co.), Vermont.2
No death or burial record has been found for this David Knapp, but the Owen genealogy says he died 1 September 1863 and was buried at East Road Cemetery in Berlin, Vermont. However, his wife Prudence was remarried in 1829, so unless he and Prudence were divorced, this death date must be wrong.3

  5. [S2545] Vermont, Vital Records, 1760-1954. Death record for James Tryon, FHL Film 27712, Image 3475. This source (a transcription) lists his death date as "Feby. 26, 1852," at age 75, apparently a mis-transcription of the year. He was clearly living in 1860, when he was listed in the census at age 74. The note from Lynn McManus included in the online Erlandson family tree indicates that his gravestone has the date 26 February 1862, which is consistent with his age at death listed in the death record.
