She was well known in her home town of Kansas City for her artistic capabilities, as a dancer, linguist, and writer. She had been educated abroad for several years, traveled extensively, and during World War I served for a time as a nurse in a French convent.3 The 1922 passport applications for her and her first husband Ralph say they intended to travel with their daughter Nicole to France, Spain, Italy, England, Switzerland, Belgium, Tunis, Morocco, returning to the U.S. within two years.9,10
She and her second husband Edward are listed in Manhattan, New York, in the 1930 census, along with their son Edward, Katherine's daughter Nicole from her first marriage, and a servant.11
Her obituary says she suffered a nervous breakdown, leading to further complications, shortly before her death.3

- [S3346] She apparently lied about her age as she got older. Her 1922 passport application gives her birth date as 24 February 1885, the 1930 census lists her age as 38, and her 1933 New York Times obituary gives her age as 39. No birth record for her has been found online, but she's listed as age 1 with her parents in the 1880 census, indicationg that the birth date of 24 February 1879 she gave in her 1899 passport application is likely correct.
