What is now the First Church in New London is believed to have been organized in Gloucester, Massachusetts in 1642 and to have removed to New London a few years later. Part of New London, First Society was set off as East New London Society (Groton) in October 1703. Part was set off as New London North Society (Montville) in May 1720. Part was set off as East Lyme Society (Niantic) in May 1726. Parts were set off as parts of Chesterfield Society in January 1769 and May 1809.

Muriel Moore Stephens
Formerly of Binghamton
Muriel Stephens died on December 30 in Reno, Nevada. She was born in Utica, N.Y., on May 21, 1918 to Harry T. Moore and Edna Scranton Moore. She graduated from Whitesboro Main Street School and Utica College. Muriel was a singer and moved to Binghamton to pursue her career. She had a radio show on WNBF in Binghamton called "Hi Neighbor." She met Ralph Stephens who was a Big Band musician performing in Binghamton. They were married in October 1942 in Scranton, Pa., and moved to New York City where their daughter, Georgia was born. Muriel worked for Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians in New York City. They returned to Whitesboro in 1949 and back to Binghamton in 1953. Muriel worked for the Broome County Blood Center until 1976 when she retired and the family moved to California. Ralph died in 1987. In 2001 Muriel moved to the Reno area to be close to her daughter and family. Muriel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Georgia and William Vaughn; granddaughter, Maureen Gilberti; grandson, Robert Verno and his wife, Gina; great-granddaughters, Shelby Dalton and Ava Verno; sister-in-laws, Kay Moore and Mary Stephens; and many nieces and nephews. Floyd, III, Capt., USAF Ret., of New Hartford, died October 26, 1992 in St. Elizabeth's Hospital. He was born April 13, 1925, in Utica, NY, son of the late Colonel William R., Jr. and Ethel Hagues Floyd. He was educated in the Utica School System and graduated from the University of Colorado. he was married to Helen Haas in 1947. She died in 1976. He married Beverly L. Ricci in 1977.
Mr. Floyd was employed with Commercial Travelers Mutual Insurance Co., retiring in 1990. He was affiliated at one time with Bethany Presbyterian Church. When he married Helen, he became associated with Olivet Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and was later affiliate with New Hartford United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in WW II in Germany with the Timberworlves Division. He also served with the Air Force REserves as a Captain until retiring in 1985. He was the director of the Magnificent Yankees Drum and Bugle Corps for 12 years. He was also affiliated with the New Hartford Spartans Marching BAnd. He was a Boy Scout Leader, Chairman of the Utica Postal Council for many years, was a Docent at the Utica Zoo, was a member of the Air Force Officers Association, the Reserve Officers Association, the Retired Officers Association, and the New Hartford American Legion Post #1376.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, ad daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Charles Wilison, of Rochester, a step-son, Thomas D. Manning, New Hartford, one aunt, Doris Hagues, New York Mills, several cousins; many friends including his close friend, Walter Schmidt, and his Schnauzer, Bismark.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Special Care Unit at St. Elizabeth HOspital and deepest gratitude to Dr. Kevin Matthews for all of his kindness. Bud touched the hearts of many people and should be remembered for his kindness and be remembered with a smile. There will be no public services. In liew of flowers, kindly consider contributions to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society, or the Utica Zoological Society.
