  Fatal Accident. – We regret to learn that John Hugh Boyd, aged about 30 years, only son of the late John Boyd, printer and first proprietor of The Casket, died near Overton, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, 10th inst., from the effect of injuries which he accidently received on that day. Colin McGillivray, formerly of Dnomaglass, but at present residing in Ogdonia, Pa., gives the following particulars of the sad affair. Deceased was engaged in rafting logs. At a certain point of the river the raft jammed, one log 20 ft. long standing on end among the rest. While he was endeavoring to loosen the jam, a splash from the dam struck this log, causing it to fall on him. The logs were loosened by the splash and Boyd, stunned and held down by the one which had fallen on him, was carried over a fall of twelve feet, where the logs spread out. Two other young men were with him on the raft at the time but escaped unhurt. The injured man was immediately taken out of the water and carried to the nearest house. The first words he uttered were a request to send for a priest. The priest was sent for, but owing to the distance he had to travel (22 miles) he did not arrive in time to administer the last rites to the dying man. The accident happened at 6:30 p.m., and he died about four hours afterwards. The log had struck him in the abdomen, causing fatal internal injuries. He was buried in the Catholic cemetery at Overton on the following Saturday, when a number of Nova Scotians assisted in giving him a very decent funeral. he was a strong, brave, and good young man, and his untimely death is much regretted by his many friends and acquaintances. May he rest in peace.³
