Torquil, the heir of Roderick MacLeod of Lewis, was the principal supporter of Domhnall Dubh, claimant to the Principality of the Isles, when Domhnall escaped from prison and raised the banner of insurrection in 1501, for the purpose of regaining the lordship of the Isles. Torquil married (apparently as a later wife) the widowed Catriona inghen Cailein a Caimbeul, daughter of Cailean, the first Earl of Argyle, and herself a sister of Donald dubh's mother Mairead.
In the end of the fifteenth century, king James IV of Scotland was endeavouring to put an end to the constant clan troubles in the Hebrides, caused by the efforts to revive the broken power of the Lord of the Isles.
Torquil was the most notable of the chiefs who resisted the efforts of the king’s lieutenants, first his brother-in-law, Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll, and afterwards Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly. It was only by the efforts of James IV himself that the Islesmen were finally brought to peaceful submission.
Torquil was the last of them all Islesmen who was subjugated. Torquil was Argyle’s brother-in-law.
After Torquil had been forfeited by command of Parliament, he retired to his stronghold of Stornoway Castle. He had with him his kinsman, Domhnall Dubh, son of that Angus Oigh who had won the battle of the Bloody Bay.
But in the end Stornoway Castle was captured by the Earl of Huntly, Domhnall Dubh was driven to Ireland, and the insurrection of the Islesmen brought to an end.
James IV forfeited all of Torquil's lands in 1506 because of the rebellion. When Torquil died (sometime before 1510), his heir was his son John. In 1511, Malcolm, Torquil's younger brother, re-acquired the forfeited ancestral lands of Lewis.2Family 1: Lady Catherine Campbell b. 17 Apr 1440, d. 18 Nov 1516

MacFARLANE Unidentified
Eric Joseph MacFarlane, 17 years old, Dunvegan, Inverness County. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, and friend, Eric, on July 26th at home. Eric loved spending time with family, friends, and his dog, Sandy. He had a great passion for the outdoors; especially kayaking, dirt biking, and fixing anything with a motor. At his young age family and neighbours could call on Eric to assist with anything needing fixing. Eric was a grade 12 student at Inverness Academy. He was known for being a fun-loving ,wild, and crazy soul. One of his biggest assets was his generous and kind heart. Eric is survived by his parents Eric and Geraldine (MacEachern) MacFarlane; brother Richard Nerysoo, Dartmouth; sisters Rena Nerysoo, Edmonton; Erica, Allie (Brendon), and Sarah MacFarlane of Ontario; and Rosie Gainey (Lane) of Virginia; grandmother Catherine MacFarlane, Gillisdale; and nieces and nephews Faith, Chloe, Evelyn, and Calvin, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents Danny Hector and Katie Mae MacEachern and Joe MacFarlane. Visitation for Eric was held on Friday, July 29th at the Inverness Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Fr. Danny MacLennan officiating. Burial took place at MacDougall Cemetery. The funeral was under the direction of Dignity Funeral Home.1

Waltheof's grandfather Gospatric II died at the Battle of the Standard in 1138, and Waltheof's father Gospatric III became earl. Richard of Hexham reported that in 1139 the son of Earl Gospatric served as a hostage to King Stephen of England after the following peace agreement. It is generally believed, although there can be no proof, that this son was the young Waltheof. Exactly how long Waltheof would have stayed as a hostage is not known, but Waltheof's father Gospatric died in 1166 and Waltheof was apparently earl already in 1165. This was probably because Gospatric had retired to Durham as a monk some time before his actual death.
Waltheof's activities as earl included trying to persuade King William of Scotland not to invade England, which William did anyway in 1174; and arbitrating a dispute between the Abbot of Melrose and Richard de Morville. Waltheof married a woman named Alina, possibly Scottish, and by her fathered three children, Patrick (his successor), Causantín (Constantine) and Helen. He died in 1182, and is styled "Earl of Dunbar" by the Chronicle of Melrose. He was the first man to be called "earl of Dunbar" rather than "earl of Lothian".1Family 1:

Isabella married Walter Comyn, Lord of Badenoch, bringing the mormaerdom temporarily into the hands of the Comyn family. When her husband died in 1258, Isabella married again, this time to an English knight named John Russell. This mediocre marriage left her too weak to protect her status. Already by 1259, Walter Stewart (nicknamed "Ballaich") was claiming the province for his wife, Isabella's sister Mary. By 1261, Isabella was arrested and deposed from rulership of the province on charges of poisoning her late husband.
Isabella may have had one son by Walter Comyn, a man named Henry who witnesses a charter of Maol Domhnaich, Mormaer of Lennox. However, if this Henry was their son, he did not live long enough to inherit from his parents.1Family: Sir Walter Comyn b. c 1200

Muireadhach Óg was one of the seven mormaers present at the coronation of King Alexander II of Scotland in 1214, and Muireadhach accompanied the king in the funeral cortège of his father and predecessor, King William of Scotland. Muireadhach Óg appears again in the company of the king in 1224, when he appears on a charter issued at Stirling granting rights to Paisley Abbey. In a document dating to 1226, Muireadach is referred to as "Sheriff of Stirling". He had no legitimate sons, but two daughters, Isabella (Iosbail), who married a Comyn, and Maria (Màire), who married a Stewart; both became countesses in their own right.
Muireadach died before January, 1234, when his successor appears with the comital title for the first time.1Family:
