In 1742 his father Benjamin deeded him land on Congdon Hill, near the family burial ground. In 1744, he deeded this land back to his father, and received in its place some land near his father's house. It is speculated that he moved back near his father's home after the death of his wife, so that his children would be cared for.3 His will was probated 1746. In it his father Benjamin was appointed guardian of his two children.2 He had two known children, Sarah (probably b 1740, d 1783) and Stukeley (probably b bet 1740 and 1746).4

On 13 January 1753 his father deeded 100 acres in Providence, Providence Co., Rhode Island, to him for love, etc.1
He and his brother John were co-executors of their father's will, dated 11 September 1755 and proved in 1757. He received all of his father's land and houses in Cranston. He and John were also to receive what remained of the estate after all the other bequests were satisfied, to be divided equally.1
His own will was signed by witnesses on 26 September 1786, and probated in Cranston, Providence Co., Rhode Island, on 31 August 1799. His son John was the executor. To his wife Barbara, he left her dower, plus some of the household and personal property for her lifetime. To both his oldest son John and his youngest son James, he left 1/3 of his real estate and certain personal property. The final 1/3 of his real estate, and certain personal property, went to his daughters Amy Congdon and Sarah Congdon. To his daughters Barbara Battey and Margaret Battey, in addition to what he had previously given them during his life, he left ten Spanish milled dollars. Money that was owed to him, plus the outdoor stock and movables, went to his sons John and James. The indoor movables, except for some specified legacies, went to his daughters Amy and Sarah, equally. He also specified how the real estate was to be divided to ensure that each share included springs and woodlands.4
