He was about 5 feet 10 inches tall, and strongly built, with large shoulders and hands.1 He moved to Kensington, Hartford Co., Connecticut, in 1707, where he was one of the first settlers. His deed was dated 1703. The area where he settled is now the town of Berlin, and at the time was called the Great Swamp. He cleared the land, built a barn in 1706 and a house in 1712.1 He was prominent in the affairs of the church, and he collected for the minister's support in 1720. That same year he and two others were chosen to build a new church.1
He and Margaret had the following known children: Eunice (b 4 May 1718), Margaret (b 5 July 1720), John (b 21 March 1723, d 8 November 1781), Lois (b 27 January 1726, d 23 April 1804), Mary (b 11 September 1728), Sarah (b 11 October 1731, d 1819).1
