     Mary (?) was born on 16 May 1650.¹ She married Samuel Root, son of John Roote and Mary Kilbourn.¹ She died after 27 November 1711.¹
     She may have been a daughter of Thomas Orton, who in 1688 mentioned his daughter Mary Root when dividing his estate.¹ She and her husband Samuel joined the parish church in Westfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, in 1680.¹

     In the settlement of his adoptive father Samuel Root's estate, the will was apparently contested, and his property ended being equally divided between him and his father's surviving brothers and sisters.¹

     Mary Gridley married Thomas Roote, son of John Roote and Mary Kilbourn, in 1670.¹ She died in 1673.¹

     John Root was born on 25 December 1676 in Westfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts.¹ He married Mary Leonard, daughter of Josiah Leonard, on 14 April 1703.¹ He died on 1 October 1744 at age 67.²

     Samuel Root was born on 16 February 1679 in Westfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts.¹ He married Sarah Warner on 27 June 1711.¹ He died on 8 December 1712 at age 33.²
     He lived in Westfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts.¹ His will was dated 5 December 1712 in Westfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts. His wife Sarah was named executrix, and she was to receive his house, barn, homestead, and all his moveables for her use while living. After her death, his house and homestead were to go to the church in Westfield. He left additional lands to his brothers Joseph and John and his sister [Sarah] Wright. He also mentions his brother Timothy and his sisters Mary Meacham and Thankful Root.¹

     She was named in her brother Samuel's will, dated 5 December 1712, and was left some land.²

     Timothy Root was born on 3 December 1685 in Westfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts.¹ He married Sarah Pease, daughter of John Pease, in 1710.¹ He died on 2 November 1743 at age 57.²
     He was mentioned in his brother Samuel's will, dated 5 December 1712.³ In 1713 he moved to Somers, Connecticut, after having previously lived in Westfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, and Enfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut. He was one of the first settlers in Somers, and lived on a small stream named the Scantic.¹ He and Sarah had the following known children: Elizabeth, Sarah, Timothy (b 1719, d 21 June 1794), Thomas (b 1726, d 15 March 1821), Anna, and two other daughters.¹

     Joseph Root was born on 16 June 1688.² He married Sarah (?) about 1713 (based on the birth date of their first child).¹ He died on 10 February 1750 at age 61.²
     He lived in Westfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts.¹ He was named in his brother Samuel's will, dated 5 December 1712, and was left some land.³
