- [S3346] His birth record has not been found in England or in Watertown, Massachusetts. The Lathrop genealogy says that he was the third child of Isaac and Mary (Barker) Stearns, who came to New England in 1630 with their three children, indicating that he was born by 1630 in England. The Great Migration Begins series says he was their oldest son, and places his birth at about 1630 because otherwise there would be a four-year gap between their second child, known to have been born in England, and their fourth, born in Watertown, Massachusetts, and a birth year of 1630 is consistent with his age at marriage. It also notes that since his birth was not recorded in Nayland with Wissington in England, or in Watertown, he may have been born in some other English parish where the family stayed before sailing, or aboard ship on the way to New England.
