Based on their baptism dates, however, one or two of these must be children of a different couple, probably John Dauyson and Helen Addyson, who were married in Cottingham on 15 March 1584/85.1

Anthony Morse was born about 1607 in England.3 He married Ann Cox on 2 May 1629 in St. Mary, Marlborough, Wiltshire, England.1 He died on 12 October 1686 in Newbury, Essex Co., Massachusetts.1
He emigrated to New England with his brother William, sailing from Southampton, England, on the ship James on or about 5 April 1635.1,2 He settled in Newbury, Massachusetts, where he was admitted as a freeman on 25 May 1636.1
On 31 May 1649 he was fined for digging a pit in which a child was drowned, and on 26 March 1650 he was fined £5 for the same offense. The fine was postponed until the next court date, and on 24 September 1650 part of the fine was again postponed.1
In 1654 he signed a petition in support of Lt. Robert Pike, who had been sanctioned by the court for objecting to a law allowing only ordained ministers to preach. The court then ordered that all those who had signed the petition be questioned, and he and six others recanted, saying "they were ignorant of his sentence, and were sorry they did it."1,4,5
He served an a petit jury in Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts, on 27 September 1653, was chosen as constable in Newbury on 29 March 1659, and served on grand juries on 24 September 1672 and 25 September 1677.1
On 7 October 1673 he deeded to his son Benjamin a 4-acre lot on Plum Island.1 On 9 October 1678 he exchanged parcels of land in Newbury with Benaiah Titcomb, with Morse receiving about 6 acres in "the Hill Field," and Titcomb receiving about 1.25 acres along the Merrimack River. And on 9 December 1679 he sold 1.5 acres of upland in "the South Field" to Tristram Coffin.1
His will was dated 28 April 1680. His son Joshua was named executor, and received the bulk of his estate, including all of his housing and lands, livestock, shoemaking and farming tools, a bed and bedding, and kitchen goods. If Joshua were to die without lawful heirs, upon his death and the payment of £40 to his widow, all of this was to go to the rest of his (Anthony's) children. He left £18 to his son Robert, and £12 to his son Peter. He also left £12 to the children of his deceased sons Anthony and Joseph. His son Benjamin was left £12, and half of his common lands if they were divided by the town of Newbury. He left £12 to his daughters (Anne) Thorlo and (Sarah) Stickney, £12 to the children of his daughter (Hannah) Newman, and £12 to his daughter (Hester) Smith. He left four sheep to his grandson Richard Thorlo, and £5 to his grandson Robert Holmes. Whatever remained was to be divided equally between all his children, and grandchildren whose parents had died.1

More Information / Background

Children of Anthony Morse and Ann Cox

The list of children shown below for Anthony Morse and Ann Cox, including their birth and death dates and in most cases their spuose(s), is from the article on Anthony Morse in The Great Migration series. As noted there, except for the four youngest, the birth dates and order for the children are derived from an examination of original parish registers in England and vital records of Newbury, Massachusetts, and an analysis of the children listed in Anthony Morse's will. Some assumptions have been made. With a couple of exceptions, the list is generally the same as in the Morse genealogy by Morse and Leavitt, although the order is different for the first eight children.1,6
