- [S3346] His death record says October 1868, and his cemetery marker says 1868. However, his parents were married on 9 February 1873 [Indiana, U.S., Marriage Index, 1800-1941, ancestry.com. Record for William N. Dewitt and Marietta Boren.], and he's listed with them as the oldest child, at age 6, in the 1880 census enumerated on 18 June. The date October 1873 is also consistent with his age listed in the record of his first marriage, and (within a year) of his age in the 1920 and 1930 censuses. He also apparently lied about his age at the time of his second marriage, to Viola Evans in 1908, who was then 24. He's listed as 26 in his marriage record, when he would have actually been 34, and as 29 in the 1910 census, when he would have actually been 36.
