Isaac Tryon was born on 23 April 1742 in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.3,4,5 He was married by Rev. James Eells to Elizabeth Kimberly, daughter of John Kimberly and Mary Hubbard, on 25 December 1771 at the Church of Christ in Eastbury (now Glastonbury), Hartford Co., Connecticut.6,7,8,9 He died on 26 December 1823 in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut, at age 81.10,11,12 He was buried at Still Hill Cemetery in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.11
He served as a private during the Revolutionary War in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army, enlisting on 17 March 1777. He initially served in the Corps of Artificers (skilled tradesmen) under Capt. William Mills. and later Capt. Clark, in Col. Jeduthan Baldwin's Regiment. The Artificers were transferred to the Corps of Artillery, under Capt. Patten, Gen. Knox's Brigade, in 1781. At about this time, in the spring of 1781, he procured Cromwell Price as his substitute, who served about a year. Isaac rejoined the unit in the summer of 1782, and was honorably discharged at the end of the war, on 3 June 1783 at West Point.6
Before the war he worked as a furniture maker like his father, and later became a comb maker.1 On 22 February 1798 he was granted a patent for a machine designed for cutting and pointing comb teeth. A year later Phineas Pratt was granted a patent for a machine that made ivory combs, and may have copied Isaac Tryon's design. Isaac later sued Phineas Pratt's son Abel Tryon, who then owned the patent rights, and settled out of court for $300.13
On 2 April 1818, in his application for a pension for his service during the Revolution, he stated that he was currently unable to work "through age, infirmity & loss of my sight."6
In the genealogy by Wesley Tryon, this Isaac Tryon is erroneously listed as the son of Joseph and Sarah (Treat) Tryon's son Joseph.4

Joseph Tryon was born about 1672 (based on his death in his 67th year).1 He married Lydia (?) on 5 December 1691 in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.1 He died on 4 April 1738 in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.1 He was buried at Green Cemetery in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.2
On 29 December 1697, at a town meeting in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut, he received a grant of 40 acres of land, providing he make improvements within four years.1 In October 1708 he sold eight acres of land in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, to George Stillman.1 Four years later, in August 1712, he transferred to Stillman his rights to the estate of his father William Tryon in Wethersfield.1 In June 1720 he sold 36 acres of land in Glastonbury to Joseph Garrett of Wethersfield.1 On 5 May 1737 he gave a house and one acre of land to his son Benjamin.1
On 26 March 1714 he was listed among those who were involved in the construction of a sawmill on a branch of Roaring Brook.1
The Tryon genealogy says he was a doctor, and was among the first to vaccinate against smallpox, for which he was recognized by the General Assembly. While he may have studied medicine (he was called "Doctor Tryon" in a December 1723 list of Glastonbury estates and grants, and "Dr. Tryon" on his gravestone), no other proof has been found for this claim.3,1,4
